“She Who Keeps the Sky from Falling”

She simply stands. Not because she must. Not because anyone asked her. But because one day she raised her hands and felt it: the sky is alive. It breathes. And it has grown a little tired of holding itself up.

The bandura player beside her plays his own tune. He does not look at her; he knows she is there. That is enough. The music goes upward, mixes with the stars, and it is no longer clear where the string ends and the firmament begins.

And she holds. Not the sky — rather this fragile balance between what hurts and what may still turn out well. Between the song he plays and the silence she listens into.

Crescent moons sway. Stars flicker. Somewhere a war is going on.

And she stands and holds. Because someone has to.
